These latest designs demonstrate longer flight ranges, greater payload capacity, and robust secure communications, enabling operators to control them from safe positions.
Eighteen teams took part in the trials, each developing solutions tailored to frontline needs.
“Bombers are a Ukrainian innovation that has become indispensable on the battlefield. They destroy infantry, equipment, fortifications and assist with frontline logistics,” said Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov during the tests.
Two classes of bomber drones
The trials showcased two principal types:
- Light bombers — fast and manoeuvrable, capable of carrying several kilograms of payload. They are effective against infantry and light vehicles.
- Heavy bombers — able to carry tens of kilograms, designed to strike heavy armour, fortifications, and to perform logistical missions.
Tested against electronic warfare
Each drone underwent rigorous evaluation: flying up to 20 kilometres under electronic warfare interference, striking a target, and returning safely.
The main focus was on secure, resilient communications — a capability that opens the door to operations over greater distances.
Following the tests, several designs have already been identified as ready for deployment in complex conditions. The next step will be their validation in combat and the scaling up of the most effective solutions.
